The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed September 8th as “Literacy Day” in Saskatchewan. The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the multiple types of literacy learning spaces where children, youth and adults live, learn, work and play (i.e., home, library, child care, early learning and school). Literacy and learning are key to a strong Saskatchewan, it can open doors to employment, have better social and health outcomes and facilitate active participation in society. The proclamation for this day was requested by the Saskatchewan Literacy Network.
Since it was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1966, the world has celebrated International Literacy Day on September 8. The 2022 theme is “Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces”.
